











Writing this ‘About Me’ page has been the most difficult writing I have ever done – which just brings home to me once again the difficulty everyone has in writing about themselves, and why highly skilled résumé writers are vital in the career market, no matter the writing skill of the job seeker or the current unemployment statistics. |
As a columnist, Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) writer, web site writer, freelance writer and résumé professional I have been producing descriptive words for over 17 years. I enjoy taking a tangle of ideas and facts and creating crisp, evocative and informative text catering to a wide variety of needs.
With a rich career history ranging from engineering project secretary, travelling to sites throughout Vietnam, to jillaroo (the female version of a jackaroo – or cowboy to some of you) and numerous career and life points in between, I draw upon this diversity and flexibility in my writing.
My writing career began in the middle somehow as I was plunged immediately into writing as a monthly columnist for glossy ITA magazine, a post which lasted over two and a half years.
The focus shifted to aspects of business writing where clients included the Australian Institute of Management and grew to include SEO writing, web site text, web home/sales page writing, press releases, rewriting and résumés. As far as qualifications and memberships go – I am a member of Career Directors International (formerly PRWRA - Professional Résumé Writing and Research Association) and one of the founding members of AORCP (Association of Online Résumé and Career Professionals). I have a Diploma in Journalism and Advanced Diploma of Arts: Writing and Editing.
My résumé writing experience was grounded in writing résumés and cover letters for the highly demanding and competitive Canadian and U.S. markets and I have been operating my own business, d’Scriptive Words, since 2003. In that time I have achieved international Certified Résumé Writer and Certified Expert Résumé Writer accreditation (only the third in Australia and the first in Queensland) and have been published in international career books and industry software.
In the prestigious international industry awards, the TORI (Toast of the Résumé Industry) awards, I was successful in winning the Best Cover Letter category in 2003. In the 2004 TORI awards I was a finalist in the Best Executive Résumé category – in the résumé world, the equivalent of achieving nominee for Best Actor/Actress at the Academy Awards!
In the 2006 Résumé Industry Awards (there were no awards in 2005 due to restructuring) I am proud to say I was a finalist in the categories of Best Executive Résumé and Best Cover Letter and won the Best Professional Resume category. In 2007 I was awarded first place for Best International Résumé.
My goal of writing a course to assist others who want to offer services as professional résumé writers, and ultimately providing a higher standard for job seekers, finally came to fulfilment in May 2007.
